Welcome to the 8th Annual HEAD OF THE SOUTH Regatta Website This year the race will be rowed over a 2.8 mile course on the Savannah River in Augusta, Georgia. The 2004 regatta will take place Saturday, November 13th. Please see the detailed map of the course and boating instructions, which will be displayed at the venue. The regatta is hosted by the Augusta Rowing Club. The Club welcomes all competitors, coaches, friends, and families to an exciting day of racing. The schedule, registration, and rules are outlined on this website. Please read them carefully. Every competitor and coach is responsible for fully understanding the rules and instructions in order to make this a fair and safe race.

Important Notes

To enter this year's Head of the South please use REGATTA CENTRAL for online registration.  We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE clubs to use this source for registration and payment by credit card or check.  There will be a $5.00 processing fee per entry for registration via mail. 

Important Dates and Deadlines

The  online registration has been extended to midnight, Saturday November 6, 2004.

All mailed registration forms and fees must be RECEIVED by midnight, Saturday  November 6, 2004. No phone entries will be accepted.

Regatta Registration/Check-In will begin on  Friday, November 12, 2004, from 3 pm to 7 pm. All clubs, collegiate organizations, or scullers  must send  one designated representative only to check-in. This representative shall be responsible for all registration material, including race packets, waivers, and paying the balance due on entry fees. The designated representative must check- in, sign out race packets, provide waivers, and pay any remaining balance due at Regatta Headquarters located inside the registration building near the launch dock. Additional entries will be taken only if space permits and will be subject to a  $30.00 fee.  Scratches will incur a $30.00 penalty per boat. No exceptions are made for any deadline or registration procedure. Additional Registration will be available from 6:30 am to 10 am on Race Day at Regatta headquarters for any scullers and designated crew representatives who have pre-registered and prepaid.

The Coaches/Coxswains Meeting will be Friday, November 12 upstairs inside the Boathouse at 7:00 pm. LACK OF ATTENDANCE AT THE COACH AND COXSWAIN MEETING WILL BE VIEWED AS ACCEPTANCE OF RULES OF COURSE.

The Rain Date  is Sunday, November 14, 2004.

Results and Awards

Results for each event will be posted at the results tent soon as possible after the last boat finishes for each event. Individual result placards used at the Results tent can be purchased for $5.00 each, but will not be available until the end of all events. Medals will be awarded throughout the day. Based on the final results, prizes will be awarded to all first-, second-, and third-place finishers in all divisions provided there are at least four entries. Awards will be given to organizations achieving the greatest total points in the regatta for Junior, Club, and Collegiate events. Points will be accumulated by event, i.e., Junior events will contribute to Junior points total only. Points will be awarded as follows: 1st place - 5 points, 2nd place - 3 points, 3rd place - 1 point. Composite crews do not earn any points.

Silent Auction

This year we will be having a silent auction to benefit an equipment fundraiser for our club. Come by the tent and check out some of the items. 

Parking

All boat and trailer parking will be at the Regatta site and will be directed by parking officials. Security will be provided on site from Friday, November 12, 6:00 pm, to Sunday, November 14, 6:00 am. Enter the Regatta site from Prep Phillips Drive and you will be instructed where to park. Crews will be issued parking passes at the Prep Phillips gate. Parking spaces are limited. Please make every effort to pool passengers. (Vehicles pulling a loaded trailer will be admitted without pass). Vehicles carrying singles and doubles/pairs will be issued one (1) parking pass and will be directed to the Ports Authority Building for storage and launch. Race officials will be directed to parking above the Boat House.

Crew / Vendor Sales

Crews will be allowed to sell in the vendor area on Friday, November 12th, and Saturday, November 13th. The fee must be paid in advance. Space in the vendor’s area is on a “first come” basis. Any crew found selling such items without having paid the fee or selling outside the vendor’s area will be charged $100.00 and will be required to move into the vendor’s area. Directions to the Race Course

From I-20: Take the Riverwatch Parkway exit off of Interstate 20; turn left (signs to Riverfront Marina and downtown). Continue on Riverwatch Parkway approximately 5 miles until first traffic light at 15th Street. Turn right and take immediate left onto Broad Street. Continue on Broad Street until it ends at East Boundary traffic light. Go through light and turn left at Riverfront Paint and Body on Prep Phillips Drive. This will take you through the levee and directly into the regatta site.

From Highway 25 (South Augusta): Continue on Highway 25 (this is Gordon Highway) through town and over series of overpasses. After the intersection with Walton Way (Red Lobster Restaurant on right) – go over overpass and take Broad Street exit – turn right at stop sign. This road will end at a stop sign – turn left onto Reynolds Street. Follow Reynolds Street along the levee (on left) until Reynolds makes a ninety degree right (where it turns into East Boundary Street) to a traffic light. Turn left at light and then next left at Riverfront Paint and Body onto Prep Phillips Drive. This will take you through the levee and directly into regatta site.

Note: These directions are for trailers as well as individual vehicles.
