Learning to Row / Getting Started
Complete 2009 Class Schedules Listed Below

About the Program.    Our Learn to Row Program is designed primarily for working adults and area college students (age 18 and up) who are interested in rowing and would like hands on experience.  (Parents and high school/middle school students ages 12-17 should check our  Youth / High School Program (age 12-17) for information about rowing for this age group.)  Each session is arranged into six classes which are  neither competitive nor overly physical.  They are simply an introduction to the sport for people who have never rowed.  You do not need to have an athletic background to participate in these classes  At the end of the class, students may  join the club and begin rowing as a regular member with access to our weight room and rowing equipment.  You will find that rowing is surprisingly interesting and challenging. It is a “low impact” sport with great physiological and mental benefits.

After completing the class, we invite and encourage you to continue rowing with our Adult  (Masters) Program (age 18 and up)Most of the ARC Masters are Learn-to-Row graduates themselves! We offer recreational and competitive levels of rowing participation and you will not need to purchase your own equipment to participate in the Augusta Rowing Club.  Joining the club is easy.  After completing the Learn to Row Program, you can learn how to become apart of the Augusta Rowing Club from your instructor, or you may check 2009 Membership Information. You may mail in membership materials in or drop them off at the boathouse.  Learn to Row graduates will receive $25 off the regular membership.

Getting Started.       Takes 4 easy steps.  One:  Check the schedule below (to be posted soon), and contact the instructor via phone or  email.  Two: Confirm your place in the program by sending a check for $80 made payable to ARC Masters with your name and phone number to the address below. Three: Download a Learn to Row Application and a Waiver, fill them out, and bring them with you to class.  Four:  Meet at the Boathouse - here are the Directions to the Boathouse.

Don't Forget.       You must be able to swim to participate in this class.  Please wear shorts that fit close to the thighs - preferably Lycra (Spandex). Excess material will get caught in the wheels under the seats.  Bring a water bottle.  A Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are optional but suggested, particularly in the summer months. Attendance at all classes is not mandatory, though it is highly recommended for your benefit and as a courtesy to the instructor and to other participants.  While walk-ons are welcome, please sign up early, at least a week prior to the start date.

Note:  if you cannot make the normal class schedule or have unusual working hours but would like to learn, please call the instructor for more information.
