Joining Our Youth Rowing Team

There are currently FIVE opportunities to experience rowing, tryout for the team, and join a squad during each calendar year.  Generally anyone from the eighth grade and up can tryout.  Occasionally we will accept an above average seventh grader on the team; however, they need to be characteristically more mature than other students in their peer group. At any time during the year, you may Contact Us ahead of time to watch a practice or talk with the coaches.  If you want to see the sport up close, this is a great opportunity to ride with a coach in a motor boat. Please check our Youth Rowing Team Webpage for general and specific information, frequently asked questions, directions and other links.

Opportunity One:  Summer Camp

In the summer, the team will host two weeks or sessions of rowing camps. These are Learn to Row Camps for beginners from 8am to noon each day. These sessions are usually held towards the end of June and the first part of July.  The camp is $85 for the week and includes a t-shirt, coaching, and activities for the week and $50 off your fall season registration fee if you choose to join the team. All fees are non-refundable. All participants should wear their swim suit and bring a towel on the first day for the swim test.

Please print and fill out a Waiver (pdf) and Summer Camp Registration (pdf). Please mail them along with your payment to the address on the registration form. Please Contact Us if you have more questions.

Opportunity Two:  Join the Fall Team

You can “try us out” for 2 weeks with no obligation – free of charge - to see how you like rowing.  Come down for the First Day of Practice, usually the first day of school from 4:00pm to 6:30pm.  You can also attend the Open House, which is usually a week or so after school starts.  You can Contact Us for details on those dates.  You can catch the end of a practice, tour the boathouse, and talk to parents and coaches.  You can also register for the team at the open house.  Fill out the registration forms and bring them the first day you come to practice.

Opportunity Three:  Walk-on During  Fall Season

After the first two weeks of practice in the Fall, it is possible to join the team at the discretion of the coach.  Anyone interested in joining the team at this point may schedule an appointment to observe a typical practice and talk with the coaches.

Opportunity Four:  November Tryouts

At the end of the Fall Season, the team becomes open for tryouts again. A Rowing Tryout Period is held, usually from mid-November until mid-December.  This tryout period is free of charge, and is a great way to check if you want to try rowing in the Spring.  Please download, fill out, and bring a Waiver (pdf) and Registration (pdf) on the first day.  You will want to dress appropriately for the weather - sweatpants, wind pants or close fitting shorts are recommended.   After that, you may work out with the team, primarily in the weight room, over the winter.  Please Contact Us if you have questions.

Opportunity Five:  January Tryouts

In early January, usually first week that school starts, the team holds a second Rowing Tryout Period free of chargePlease download, fill out, and bring a Waiver (pdf) and Registration (pdf)  on the first day.  You will want to dress appropriately for the weather - sweatpants, wind pants or close fitting shorts are recommended. After that you may attend the First Two Weeks of Practice free of charge.  Students who played Fall sports or who missed the chance to join the team during the first season may join in January.  This season tentatively starts the first week in January.  After the first two weeks of practice in the Spring, it is possible to join the team at the discretion of the coaching staff, but normally the team is closed to walk-ons at that point. Please Contact Us if you have questions.
