Try Us
Out!
Everyone is welcome to “try us out” for
2 weeks with no cost. We welcome anyone who wants to try the sport
to see how they like it. We are glad to have you and hope you enjoy
your experience!
Please do the following:
Fill out the
Registration Forms and return them at the next practice. Make sure you
and your child sign on each required signature line. Put them in the
Drop Box at the Boathouse. Once your child has decided to
definitely join the team, you can turn in your Physical form. You
may turn in a physical dated within the past 12 months.
Helpful Information
Practices:
Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri from 4:00 to 6:30pm at the Boathouse
Clothing:
Baggy
shorts tend to get caught in the moving parts of the boat, so
tighter fitting shorts are recommended.
Rowers should wear good shoes for running and exercising. Be sure
to bring a water bottle and wear sunscreen!!
Dues:
The dues cover all of the following
expenses: uniform - including the official AJRC unisuit, team shirt,
and team bag; coaching fees; access to weight room equipment and
ergs; insurance; regatta expenses such as hotel accommodations,
transportation by chartered bus, entry fees, and breakfast and lunch
served during regattas. The only “extra” expense you will have is
sending dinner money when we go on regattas. This is usually covers
2 meals at a restaurant while traveling to and from the regatta.
Fall dues are
$500. We would prefer to have all dues paid by September 1, however
if it helps, you can pay $200 by September 1, $150 by October 1, and
$150 by November 1.
Spring dues are $650 --- if paid before January 15. Installments may be paid over 3 months with a $25 service
charge --- on Jan 16 - $225, on Feb 16 - $225, on Mar
16 - $225. Spring
season is more expensive because we have more traveling regattas.
Please pay by
check or money order and write your rower’s name on each payment.
You can either mail your dues to the Boathouse (Augusta Junior
Rowing Team – DUES, 101 Riverfront Drive, Augusta 30901) or put them
in the Drop Box at the Boathouse.
Nationals – Each
year we have a few varsity rowers who qualify to go to Nationals in
Cincinnati, Ohio. Some of the expense is
offset by the team, however about $200-$300 of the cost falls to
each individual rower. Parents of varsity rowers may want to plan
for this possible expense. The team may have fund raising
opportunities to help with personal costs such as car washes or
coxing for the masters team, etc.
Regattas:
Our team travels to several regattas
throughout the year. We travel by chartered bus and stay in a hotel
overnight. Chaperones are provided through parent volunteering. We
occasionally miss a day of school to travel to a regatta. Letters
are sent to principals so those absences may be excused. Parents
are welcome and encouraged to travel to the regattas when possible
to cheer on the team! We usually have 3 regattas each season and in
the spring we also have the Southeast Regionals. We have one “home”
regatta each season.
Seasons:
We have a fall season with longer
races, usually about 5k, and a spring season with shorter sprint
races. We start practices in fall when school starts and end in
early December. We start spring practices in January and end in the
middle of May.
Summer Camp:
We have a week long summer camp
program to introduce rowing to kids who want to give rowing a try.
The cost is $85 and you get a $50 discount on your fall season dues
as well as a camp
t-shirt and coaching instruction on
how to row.
Open House:
Each fall we have a big Open House
event where we have a cookout and meet the coaches and offer tours
of the Boathouse. If you arrive early, you can see the rowers out
on the water. It’s a great way to get to know the sport and team.
Parent Meeting:
At the beginning of each season, we
have an informative parent meeting where you have the opportunity to
ask questions and get more informed about the team.
Volunteers:
We rely heavily on parent volunteers
for many jobs throughout the season, so plan on helping out with the
team. We have a parent board with a president, vice president,
treasurer and secretary. Please volunteer when needs are
mentioned! At our home regattas, one parent from each family needs
to volunteer to work at one of our stations.

Parents can also learn to row in a
series of classes structured specifically for you. Check out that
